Impact

Research indicates that increased access to mental health care can lead to earlier diagnosis, improved adherence to evidence-based treatment, and better patient outcomes. The PCL was established to support providers throughout Washington State by providing convenient access to psychiatric consultation.

To date, PCL consultations have helped providers and/or patients from 38 of Washington’s 39 counties. This map shows the number of PCL consultations per 100,000 county residents from July 2019 through June 2025. Nearly half of Washington counties do not have a practicing psychiatrist1, many of which had higher consult rates (consults per 100,000 residents) than those with more psychiatrists. We are encouraged that the PCL is being used so widely across our state.
